Event Details

Experience the rich culture of Aboriginal weaving in a 2 hour workshop. Learn traditional techniques, cultural significance, and create your own unique piece for you to take home.

Participants are provided with materials and tools to practice weaving themselves. The instructor provides guidance and assistance as needed, helping participants to create their own small woven piece, such as a coaster, bracelet, or small basket.

Demonstration of Techniques: The instructor demonstrates basic weaving techniques, such as starting a weave, creating different patterns, and finishing a weave. Participants observe and learn the techniques through demonstration and explanation.

Storytelling and Cultural Context: Throughout the workshop, the instructor may share stories, songs, or cultural practices related to weaving. This helps to deepen participants’ understanding of the cultural significance of weaving in Aboriginal culture.

Reflection and Discussion: Towards the end of the workshop, there may be a reflection session where participants can share their experiences, ask questions, and discuss the cultural aspects of what they have learned.

This workshop will operate for groups of 5 – 10 persons. Minimums and availability apply.

Suitable for all ages. Please note, Killalea Regional Park is accessible for those with wheelchairs, mobility scooters and prams, however areas are grassy/gravel and uneven. Water bottle, sunscreen, and hat are recommended for sun protection.
