Shellharbour Village

The name Shellharbour is derived from the quantity of shells found in the harbour during the time of settlement. The original village was called ‘Peterborough’, as it was the Peterborough Estate owned by D’Arcy Wentworth.

Shellharbour Village today is an ocean front café strip that is fast becoming the talking point of the region with its great mix of outdoor cafes, award winning restaurants and famous fish and chips. There are an eclectic range of specialty boutique shops which are great for browsing or finding that special gift. Shellharbour Village also has a range of health, well-being and beauty services which compliment its relaxed seaside atmosphere.

Take a walk along Addison Street and read the historical heritage plaques for an insight into the history of Shellharbour. Download the Shellharbour Village Heritage Trail brochure or pick up a copy from the Shellharbour Visitors Information Centre located in Shellharbour Village.

The harbour is a popular spot to drop a line and the boat ramp is a good place to launch your boat for an ocean fishing trip. Little Park at the harbour is an ideal place for the kids to enjoy the playground, with picnic shelters and the saltwater swimming pool.

There is also a large variety of accommodation available in the Village including quaint bed and breakfasts, motels, holiday houses and units and an ocean front tourist park with beach cottages, cabins and camping.
